Schneider Electric Expands Drives Offer with the New Altivar 1200 Medium Voltage Variable Speed Drive

Energy Management - Electrical Distribution - Control Systems - Energy Control

Schneider ATV

Schneider Electric, global specialist in energy management, is extending its wide range of electrical distribution, motor control, and control systems with the Altivar 1200 medium-voltage Variable Speed Drive (VSD).

Designed to optimise performance and energy efficiency in fans, pumps, conveyors and compressors, the new drive can be used in applications up to 16,200 kVA and is ideally suited to the oil and gas, water and waste water, mining, minerals and metals and power sectors.

Schneider Electric’s ATV 1200 VSD has been engineered to save energy consumption, while offering continued high performance. It is open to most networks and can be integrated into any medium voltage architecture. The new drive is supplied fully equipped, with a wide range of standard features such as a safety interlock system, system screw, internal lighting, large user-friendly HMI touch screen and a 30 minute Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) to the control unit.

The drive is housed in a compact, robust front facing cabinet that saves valuable space and can be easily installed into space conscious factories, simplifying integration on site. The ATV 1200 drive is based on multi-level technology, providing clean sinusoidal wave output current/voltage.

The innovative new product also has an inverter efficiency of 98.5 per cent, as well as a harmonics-free input current with a high power factor.

Further to this, the Altivar 1200’s drive efficiency is improved with an inbuilt cooling system, eliminating the need for an external supply, saving both maintenance costs and space. The cabinet also offers IP31, IP41 and IP42 rated protection, perfectly suited to fit into a high demand environment.

The Altivar 1200’s inverter is based on a core, reliable architecture using a low-voltage Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGTB) which is easy to maintain, thanks to power cells that can simply be replaced within minutes, avoiding costly downtime.

Nipun Sibal, Altivar 1200 product manager at Schneider Electric, comments: “The ATV 1200 is truly unique to the UK market, offering our customers a reliable product that reduces energy consumption, while providing superior power quality.

“Schneider Electric can provide a turnkey solution that comes complete with drive and associated equipment, such as electrical distributions and control systems. We have extensive experience in the medium voltage market and have been providing solutions in this sector for more than 15 years. For this reason, our customers can be sure that with our professional experts, they will receive a superior service.”
