Prysmian - Afumex Cable Installed in Care Village

Cable Systems - Safety Cables - Armoured Cables - Electric Cables

Aberdeenshire Council selected Prysmian Afumex LSX cables for the recently opened Edenholme care village in Stonehaven in the north east of Scotland.

The installation work was carried out by the services contractor Richard Irvin, and contract manager George Dempster, explained the puncture protection provided by Afumex LSX cable was the primary reason for its specification.

“There might be similar products available on the market but none that we are aware of that provide the same level of protection as the Afumex cable,” he said.

The cables will provide small power and lighting circuits throughout the £8m care village which consists of a new 60 bed home and eight one-bedroom cottages.

Alastair Stewart, principal electrical engineer at Aberdeenshire Council, said the £1m electrical project was installed throughout the building to LV services and was selected because it met the council’s standards specification.

The new care village replaces the old Edenholme care home in Stonehaven which was opened in 1952 to house 15 residents.

Work was completed in October 2012 and the residents have since moved in to the two-storey building, which boasts three wings of accommodation largely for patients suffering from dementia.

Speaking at the opening of the home earlier this year, Councillor Karen Clark, chair of the council’s social work and housing committee, said: “[This new facility] can accommodate double the number of residential care places as the previous home, delivering excellent care to older people in a 21st century environment.”
