Taking advantage of the downtime offered during the Christmas shutdown period provides the ideal opportunity to deliver a new finish underfoot – and start 2014 on a productive footing.

Flooring manufacturer Flowcrete UK enables processing and manufacturing centres to get more from floors, achieving a fit for purpose finish that underpins a more efficient, safer working environment.

Now, to help signpost specifiers to the right flooring system for their environment, Flowcrete UK has produced an online guide, containing a wealth of information to show how to get more from floors over the seasonal shutdown.

Available to view at http://www.flowcrete.co.uk/campaigns/get-more-from-floors/get-more-from-floors-this-winter.aspx the guide includes an overview of the different grades of resin flooring, to help decision makers choose the right type of finish for maximum durability.

The guide also gives an insight into the number of accidents relating to slips and trips. According to the HSE, one serious slip accident occurs approximately every three minutes in the UK – most of which occur on a floor contaminated by water, grease or other substances, but the installation of a purpose-built floor can help reduce this risk.

Details about the durability of Flowcrete floors are also outlined, detailing how different types of finish can withstand factors such as oils, sugars, chemicals and extreme heat.

The speed at which floor finishes can be installed is also covered, with information on Flowcrete’s innovative two hour flooring concept Flowfast, which puts refurbishment and renovation works on the fast track.

Utilising the latest in MMA resin technology, Flowfast offers a finish that looks good and stands up to all the demands associated with floors for manufacturing and processing areas.

Crucially, the system is ready for use just two hours after installation.

With more than 30 years’ experience of flooring in the sector, Flowcrete floors are trusted the world over to deliver fit for purpose systems - with the company’s products built on innovation and meeting the specific needs of the UK manufacturing and processing sectors.

Earlier this year, Flowcrete UK launched a total ‘floor to wall’ system, which combines state-of-the-art products and best in class service to deliver a seamless finish for industries including the food and drink sectors.

Under Flowcrete’s integrated flooring system, specifiers can select a total floor ‘build-up’ for their premises, which offers the next generation in flooring choice.

Carried out with one warranty and one under point of contact, works can include the repair and restoration or re-laying of the concrete slab, the supply and installation of a damp proof membrane, and the supply and installation of a polymer modified screed.

Flowcrete can then undertake the design, supply and installation of a stainless steel drainage system and durable resin floor finish, including the choice of Flowcrete Flowfresh – a unique offer for the industry with its inclusion of the silver-based Polygiene® agent within the resin matrix, for the ultimate in hygiene performance.

Flowfresh can be laid to falls to increase the run-off and water and other fluids in a wet processing environment and graded aggregates can also be selected to ensure a slip resistant finish.

The works are completed with durable, antimicrobial wall finish, which offers a complete sealed surface that is easy to clean and maintain and meets even the most stringent demands for a total solution to prevent bacteria build-up.

Alan Dean, managing director of Flowcrete UK, said: “The Christmas shutdown provides the ideal opportunity to introduce a new floor finish that can transform a company’s operations in 2014.

A correctly specified floor will provide a safer, brighter, hard-wearing environment, and aid safety on site, helping to reduce the chances of slips and trips and supporting a well-structured workflow program with the opportunity to introduce lineage and marked out walkways within the floor design.

“The right floor will also last for the long term, meaning that the refurbishment of surfaces does not need to become a yearly undertaking.”
