Daikin UK Launches Running Cost Savings Calculation Tool for Sky Air Climate Control Systems

Daikin UK has developed an online running cost calculator, which shows the savings that can be achieved by specifying seasonally efficient products. It has been designed for installers and specifiers, so they can demonstrate to their customers the savings they can expect when selecting an energy efficient Sky Air solution.

The calculator establishes a link between system efficiency and running costs. A highly efficient system, with lower energy requirements, should result in lower energy bills. The calculation shows the predicted costs of running a system in different buildings, for example in a shop or office.

The online tool demonstrates further running cost savings that can be achieved by using other energy saving equipment from Daikin, such as self-cleaning cassettes. Running cost savings are also compared with other manufacturers’ systems and results can be downloaded as a pdf file and attached to quotations.

The online calculator tool is available on Daikin’s seasonal efficiency minisite at www.daikin.co.uk/seasonal-efficiency. The resource has been developed to coincide with the requirements of the Energy Related Products (ErP) Directive, which came into force in January 2013. This requires seasonal efficiency ratings to be calculated for air conditioning products of up to 12kW. The site provides an outline to the new SEER regulations and has downloadable fact sheets and a series of explanatory leaflets for the new ErP legislation.

The Sky Air system from Daikin UK is a climate control system for the light commercial sector, which has been optimised for the highest seasonal efficiencies, while maintaining the perfect atmosphere in the building. In addition to meeting current 2013 legislation, the product already achieves the even higher efficiency standards which will be required in 2014.

Seasonal efficiency is a way of measuring the true energy efficiency of heating and cooling technology over an entire year. This new measure gives a more realistic indication of the energy efficiency and environmental impact of heating and cooling air conditioning products. These ratings introduce Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) value when referring to cooling and Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) value for heating.

SEER and SCOP measure annual energy consumption and efficiency in typical day-to-day use. In the longer term, they take into account temperature fluctuations and standby periods to give a clear and reliable indication of the typical energy efficiency over an entire heating or cooling season.

Peter Verkempynck, Managing Director at Daikin UK said: “It is now more important than ever to understand the cost savings which can be made by purchasing ErP compliant energy efficient systems rather than equipment that does not meet the new legislation requirements.”

Daikin is committed to providing effective heating and cooling solutions to homes, business and industry. The new online calculator is another way of demonstrating the efficiency of their products.
