TROX UK has appointed Rob Fawkner to the Board as Production Director.

Rob, a chartered engineer, graduated from Cambridge University with a first class Bachelor’s honours degree in Chemical Engineering, followed by a Master of Engineering. He began his career in 1988 as a process engineer with ICI before moving to BASF. He began to specialise in manufacturing management during the early 1990’s, moving into senior leadership roles, the first of which was in 2001 when he was appointed Operations Director for ICI Imagedata. He has spent the last seven years in senior leadership roles within the HVAC sector. Rob was Operations Director at Heatrae Sadia before joining TROX in November 2011 as Head of Production.

As a member of the TROX UK board, Rob Fawkner assumes responsibility for leading, developing and improving the production operation and supply chain. His role also encompasses growing TROX Group turnover and profitability in the UK as the company continues to expand its regional sales support network.

The production facility in Thetford is a major centre of excellence for the TROX Group worldwide and has recently completed a £2.1 million investment programme. Earlier phases involved the installation of two fully-automated Trumpf punch presses which have increased production capacity at the factory by around 60%. As the presses have perfect repeatability, they achieve increased throughput at the same time as ensuring that the extremely tight tolerances and stringent quality standards demanded by TROX continue to be met.

The most recent phase of the programme involved an investment of £600,000 in CAM (computer aided manufacture) equipment, including an advanced technology Salvagnini panel bending machine. Providing a high-tech alternative to the factory’s existing press brakes, the new machine creates components for the TROX range of chilled beams in a third of the time, and with even greater repeatability, accuracy and quality. The new machine also offers TROX outstanding levels of flexibility for creating bespoke or architect-inspired fascias.

TROX UK’s Managing Director, Ian Sams, commented, “Much has been achieved already here in Thetford, in setting new standards for production efficiency and quality. We also have a long-established culture of staff development, particularly for production related skills such as Six Sigma. As an extremely experienced director, who has worked at senior level for more than a decade in a world class manufacturing environment, Rob has the depth and breadth of experience to take TROX UK to a new level. It gives us great pleasure to welcome him to the TROX team."
